A Castellers de Vilafranca exhibition is a surprising, exciting and unique experience for all the publics. Strength, balance, bravery, composure, teamwork and passion are necessary values to achieve human towers as high as possible.

Castellers de Vilafranca is a sports and cultural Catalan institution whose main goal is building human towers. We are a nonprofit organization of public interest. Since its foundation in 1948, Castellers de Vilafranca has become one of the most important and recognized institutions in Barcelona, Catalonia.

UNESCO added in 2010 human towers on the Representative List Of The Intangible Cultural Heritage Of Humanity, giving them a universal recognition.

Castellers de Vilafranca is one of the most important, and with the greatest impact, institutions in Barcelona, and it has been the representative of Catalan culture overseas in several ocasions.

International impact

Castellers de Vilafranca had taken part in many interantional events over the last 4 decades. Since Septembre 1973, when its first show abroad took place in Paris (France), Castellers de Vilafranca had performed in international exhibitions as many as 173 times already.

Acknowledgement

The task done for more than sixty years within the Catalan culture has been acknowledged by the council of Vilafranca del Penedès, which has given the City’s Medal to the team, as well
as by the catalan government has given to Castellers de Vilafranca the Saint George’s Cross, the most important award. The group has won the human towers championship for 11 times, and is leading the scene since 1995.

The group was founded in 1948, due to the fact that human tower tradition had been strongly rooted and followed in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona) in the 18th century.

Group members are freely and voluntarily part of the team, with no difference in age, social class, or political, cultural and religious beliefs. We are all united by the same goal: building human towers, and by the group’s democratic values: cooperation, team-work, constant overcoming will and the aim of keeping on being at the summit of the casteller world.
